2021 Hyundai Elantra Limited: Sharp in The City, Smooth on the Highway

Cruising Through the Old Dominion

As the Hyundai Elantra Limited arrived in time for the Fourth of July weekend, it was more than perfect for a trip to and from Alexandria to meet a new friend I met online via the 24 Hours of Lemons iRacing League. The sedan did very well on gas, at one point reaching 50 mpg somewhere along I-81. The EPA says the Elantra nets 31 mpg in the city and 41 on the highway for a combined 35 mpg; I wound up at around 28 mpg with in-town driving.

The Elantra Limited (and Hyundai overall) was also the first car (and company) where I\’ve used cruise control. That\’s right! All the long trips I\’ve taken before, I did with the right foot on the gas all of the time. However, I noticed a familiar symbol on the wheel and TFT cluster while enabling the speedometer, one I\’ve used before in American Truck Simulator to give my right pointer finger a break on those long drives after getting up to the speed limit.

This time, I gave my right foot the break for more than a few long stretches before having to turn it off on the final dozen miles or so through the Beltway.

And speaking of treacherous drives, the Elantra Limited\’s handling worked very well to help me avoid an accident. A silver Toyota Prius coming off of I-64 East onto I-81 from the left lane divebombed all the way to the right lane (where I was). I quickly moved right of the oncoming car, honked the horn to let the driver know \”HOW THE FUCK DO YOU NOT SEE A LAVA ORANGE ELANTRA ON YOUR RIGHT?!!!,\” and got the hell out of there.

Back in my Old Dominion home, I took my mom to the grocery store for her usual bi-weekly run. As you can see, there was plenty of room for all of her bags, plus my own handful of groceries. And if we needed more room, the 60/40 rear bench would\’ve offered all the room we could need.

And speaking of the bench, rear leg room is good with the seats moved back. However, I do have short legs; your mileage will vary. Head room is also good, though I did have to set my seat lower to accommodate my driving position; I\’m five-foot-six, if you\’re wondering.
