The Tale of the Tape
The Hyundai Veloster N sits at its own table next to the rest of the Veloster family. Base MSRP is $32,250, $34,755 total MSRP as tested during the week it was with me. The only major option on the list is the $1,500 eight-speed wet dual-clutch, which replaces the standard six-speed manual, and comes with an overboost function to crank the torque up to 278 lb-ft off the line. Four colors are available, including the Chalk White this example wears.
Under the hood is a two-liter turbo-four with 271 hrsprs and 260 lb-ft of torque, which the aforementioned eight-speed directs to the front pair of summer-only Pirelli P Zero-wrapped 19-inch alloys. That\’s 24 more horses in the corral than the six-speed manual offers to the turbo-four. Twenty-four more to make your track day a happier day, too.
Inside, the Veloster N welcomes you and your co-pilot or instructor with a pair of nicely bolstered sport seats, each with a lighted \”N\” logo that pops on whenever the door is open and the engine\’s off. There are also special front floor mats with embedded chrome \”N\” badges, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto available upon the eight-inch touchscreen, and a three-month Sirius XM trial.
Of course, if you\’re taking the Veloster N out to the track, then the only thing that matters is the other feature on the touchscreen: the performance data cluster. Everything you need to know while making a few laps, all right there by accessing the N Performance icon on the screen.
