2021 Kia K5 GT-Line: Optimized for winter\’s reign

Built for winter, ready for spring

Here\’s a question to ponder: if you have a lot of cardboard, but no truck or SUV, is the Kia K5 GT-Line a suitable substitute?

It is, with some effort. Yours truly recently jumped into the world of sim racing and VTubing. Thus, I picked up a few things to make each dream a reality, plus the boxes they came in.

Wanting my living room back, I popped the K5\’s trunk, pulled on the two tabs tucked under the rear window, and folded the 60-40 rear seats down flat. The pass-through was wide enough to handle all but the widest cardboard pieces, though bending the pieces took care of that issue.

When not serving as an impromptu SUV, the K5 GT-Line lives up to its name, ferrying me through town, and to viewpoints like the one overlooking Draper Valley in Pulaski, Virginia. Excellent ride all around, with combined fuel economy coming out to 30.4 mpg. Rear-seat legroom is good with the front seats back; I\’m 5 ft 6, so your mileage may vary.

I mentioned at the end of last year I wanted more cars in the Aubernon Roadhouse driveway. Though trucks, SUVs, and crossovers are the hottest thing going to this day, sedans are just as important. Whether focused on economy or performance, a family sedan brings you down to earth (in every sense of the phrase).

Therefore, the K5 GT-Line should be on your shortlist of grand tourers for the next adventure ahead. Add in all-wheel drive, and you\’ll have a GT for all seasons.
