2022 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited: No Distance Is Too Far

The Tale of the Tape

\"\"

The 2022 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited is the top-tier trim of the Sonata Hybrid line, which also includes the base Blue and mid-grade SEL. MSRP starts at $35,300, $36,474 as tested during the 10 or so days it was with me.

As with the non-hybrid Sonata Limited reviewed earlier this year, there isn\’t much left to check off once you select the Sonata Hybrid Limited. The Calypso Red paint is a $400 option, while the carpeted floor mats will set you back $169. A set of 17-inch alloys with aero enhancements wrapped in Michelin Primacys grace the corners.

Under the hood is the sole engine for the 2022 Sonata Hybrid line: a 2.0L inline-four combined with a 39-kW permanent magnet synchronous motor and a 270V lithium-ion polymer battery pack. Combined output comes to 192 horsepower, all directed to the front through a six-speed automatic.

Three interior options are available for the 2022 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited, including the all-black interior with chrome trim tucked within the Calypso Red exterior of this example. The 12.3-inch instrument cluster provides all of the important info (including MPG), while the 10.25-inch touchscreen houses Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Sirius XM for all of the entertainment and navigation (plus a panel to monitor fuel economy and electric-motor use).

Though it doesn\’t have the panoramic sunroof the non-hybrid Sonata Limited possesses, the Sonata Hybrid Limited has something more useful in its place: solar panels. A two-panel array draws in enough of the sun\’s energy to add 2 miles of range per day to whatever\’s in the tank and battery, amounting to around 700 miles of additional range per year.

Speaking of range…
