2022 Lexus UX 250h Luxury: Worth the Wait

Saving Money at the Pump for More Luxuries

The Lexus UX 250h Luxury could not have come at a better time, as I needed a ride to carry me to and from the Mustang Owner\’s Museum in Concord, North Carolina for a story, and I didn\’t want to truly test my ailing RAV4\’s capabilities.

Thus, much like I had with the 2022 Hyundai Sonata Limited Hybrid, I filled up the tank to determine if I could make the 332-mile round trip on a single tank of gas.

The answer? Barely. Unlike the Hyundai, where I had 36 miles left after nearly 700 miles of driving between the Roadhouse and Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, I would have had about three to four miles with the Lexus.

Rather than take the risk of stranding myself, I pulled into the Circle K just over the Virginia/North Carolina state line to give me about half a tank or so to work with upon coming home. I did manage 43 mpg at one point during the drive, which is over the EPA estimate of 41 mpg city, 38 highway, 39 combined. Of course, being a hybrid at a time when fuel prices are anywhere from $4 to $7 per gallon is a huge selling point for those seeking luxury without spending a ton of money at the pump.

Running errands in town, like taking my mom to the grocery store, while the electric motors helped move the UX 250h Luxury along was where the subcompact crossover shined best. Though it might not look like it in the above photo, the Lexus handled my mom\’s shopping trip quite well; your mileage will vary, of course. And after a week of in-town driving, I had only a quarter-tank or so to fill before sending it off to its next destination.

In Closing

The Lexus UX250h Luxury is a fine machine, capable of handling life\’s errands with long gaps between stops at the pump; stops for other things near the pump are another matter, of course. If a Lexus for the family is in your future, this isn\’t a bad option to consider.

Especially if you still have your CD collection.
