GT500 Track Tour: Running wild with the herd in the heart of NASCAR country

Since jumping back into automotive writing, I\’ve visited a handful of tracks.

For the 25th anniversary of the National Corvette Museum back in 2019, a a C6-era Corvette Grand Sport owner allowed me the opportunity to drive his car for a few laps around Kentucky Speedway when he heard I\’ve never driven a Corvette before.

A couple of days later, I took a ride shotgun in a silver C7-era \’Vette pacing the field of guests and their \’Vettes around the NCM Motorsports Park Grand Course.

Over two months before, I set foot upon my first NASCAR track when the Hot Rod Power Tour made its first-ever stop at Martinsville Speedway in celebration of its 20th anniversary.

Meanwhile, in the Year of Our Corona 2020, I rolled into Bowling Green, Kentucky for Holley LS Fest XI at Beech Bend Raceway Park, catching as much action on the quarter-mile and around the oval as possible.

Aside from the laps around the 1.5-mile tri-oval in Sparta, I\’ve never launched off the line nor turned a wheel in anger.

Then, an email arrived: the GT500 Track Tour would be at Charlotte Motor Speedway and zMAX Dragway on the morning of October 19, 2020.

All I had to do was say yes.
