Muhammad Ali. Jennifer Lawrence. The Kentucky Derby. What do they all have in common? They all come from Louisville, Kentucky, the city along the Ohio River on the confluence of Midwestern and Southern cultures. The city also hosts one of the biggest gatherings of street rods from around the country and (sometimes) the world, the annual National Street Rod Association Street Rod Nationals.
On the first weekend of every August for 25 consecutive years (and 28 of the Nationals’ 53 years overall), tens of thousands of street rods and their biggest fans gather under the flight path of UPS Worldport’s Boeing 747s at Kentucky Exposition Center to spend four days basking in the late summer sun.
