Mecum Louisville 2019

Do you remember that Mecum Dodge Challenger with the floral roof from earlier? That display at the NSRA Street Rod Nationals was where and how I found out Mecum Auctions would make its next stop on the 2019 schedule in Louisville.

Not only that, but it would be held at the Kentucky Exposition Center on my 41st birthday! Alas, I would not be bidding on anything rolling across the red and black carpet — as I was there to cover it for one of my editors — but the experience of attending one of these big auctions was amazing.

Another wonderful experience was the Dodge Garage. Parked away from the red-hot auction action, guests could take a ride in either a Charger Hellcat, or a Challenger Hellcat Widebody. Said ride was a 90-second spin through the cones, the big Hellcat V8 howling all the way.

Mecum Gone Farmin\’ Fall Premier 2019

Just over a month later, I found myself flying out to the Quad Cities of Illinois and Iowa for another Mecum Auctions get-together, this time at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds in Davenport, Iowa to check out some vintage tractors and trucks.

The Gone Farmin\’ brand was created by the Mecum family back in 2010 to give the spotlight to the workhorses that help turn the earth into rich farmland. There\’s nothing like seeing the wide selection of vintage tractors crossing the green carpet before you, from the goliaths of the 1900s, to the behemoths of the modern day.

This particular auction was also the first to dedicate a block of a day to vintage trucks. After all, the food and hay has to go to market somehow, and trucks have been there to help carry the load. I can\’t wait for another opportunity to take in the sights, sounds, and smells of Gone Farmin\’.
