The tale of the tape

The 86 Hakone Edition, named for the famed Hakone Turnpike toll road near Tokyo, is Toyota\’s send-off to the first-gen 86, which began as the Scion FR-S back in 2012. While the current 86 and 86 GT start off at $27,060 and $29,910, respectively, MSRP for the \”Black Gold 280ZX\” of the Toyobaru twins starts at $29,630, $30,350 with the $720 six-speed auto option. The special 86 wears Hakone Green, a stunning shade beautifully complemented by the 17-inch bronze wheels.

No engine covers here! All anyone sees is the red intake feeding air into the 2.0-liter flat-four. Output is 205 horsepower and 156 lb-ft of torque, which all go through the six-speed manual; the six-speed auto subtracts five of each.

Within the cabin, a pair of bolstered tan leather seats with black suede inserts await you and a friend for adventure. Carbon fiber trim surrounds the switch gear on the doors, and a black suede glovebox features the \”86\” logo embroidered with tan stitching.

Infotainment comes in the form of a 7-inch touchscreen display with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto playing well with Toyota\’s Entune 3.0.

Though the 86 Hakone Edition has a pair of rear seats in black suede, they\’re only for your bags or your pet; with the front seats pushed all the way back, leg room doesn\’t exist at all.

And speaking of legs…
