Throwback: Louisville Concours d\’Elegance 2010 & 2011

\”World-class\” aspirations for the River City

\"\"

Everyone and their moms know about the Pebble Beach Concours d\’Elegance. Quite a few have the Amelia Island Concours d\’Elegance on their social calendar. And there are plenty who escape winter\’s chill over at Hilton Head every November.

Louisville, though, was a blip on the radar. After all, my old Old Kentucky home only comes up in everyone\’s minds from April through the first Saturday in May in the lead up to the first jewel of a potential triple crown, the Kentucky Derby. Or whenever someone brings up Muhammad Ali, Hunter S. Thompson, or Jennifer Lawrence.

In short, it\’s hard for a city like Louisville to get much notice outside of horses. And if you can\’t get noticed beyond your most famous things, it\’s harder to pull in a different audience.

Especially in early October, when the Louisville Concours d\’Elegance was held.

Yet, the organizers of the Louisville Concours did their best for six editions between 2008 and 2013; the 2013 edition, though, was moved to French Lick, Indiana, the birthplace of NBA legend Larry Bird.

Yep. A small Indiana town dunked on Louisville. Imagine that.
